Director: Anthony Burns

Writers: Carlo Allen,  Ted Elrick

Starring: Katherine Heigl,  Patrick Wilson,  Madison WolfeJordana BrewsterJames Belushi, Kevin McKidd, and A.J. Buckley

Plot: Don Champagne is living the American dream. He has a successful business, perfect wife; kids, and a gorgeous home. Unfortunately, when his wife, Mona, finds out about his affair with the new sales girl, Dusty (Jordana Brewster), his life spirals out of control. Don soon realizes that Mona will stop at nothing, even murder, to maintain their cookie cutter life, where “perception is everything”.

Katherine Heigl is CRAZY!!

This movie isn’t “scary”, however, I would imagine being married to someone like Mona(Katherine Heigl), would be a total nightmare!

{NSFW- Minimal spoilers, all of which are in the trailer!}

Once again, Katherine Heigl plays a neurotic, controlling character but she takes it to a whole new level with this one. (The fact that it seems to be so natural for her is a bit disturbing.) Anyway, she is very cold, detached and organized; she even schedules sex…..WHO SCHEDULES SEX?!?!

Home-Sweet-Hell__7no sex for you(We will have sex on the 9th, as scheduled…)

On top of that, Don (Patrick Wilson) is a weak-willed man who continues to let his wife belittle him, and run his life. It is pathetic and annoying BUT he has his moment of triumph; it’s very satisfying! Don hires a new sales associate, Dusty. Mona has no desire to meet her, stating ” I think it’s best to keep boundaries between the power and the help.” Later that night, Mona and Don have a minor argument, resulting in Don sleeping at the office. The next morning he wakes up to Dusty, licking his ear and whispering “I heard you guys last night, you deserve better” and so the affair begins……

The affair with Dusty really bites Don in the ass, in the WORST possible way. A pregnant mistress AND blackmail… could it get any worse?!? Yes, yes it can! Mona channels her inner “Dexter” and handles it.

Final Thoughts

Despite it being more of a comedy rather than a scary, horror flick, Mona is truly batshit and it is very entertaining. There are plenty of deaths, blood, racy behavior and jaw dropping, “WTF, she is crazy” moments to justify a review and a watch. This is a plot and character driven film; emphasis on the character. The storyline is packed from start to finish but it is Don’s personal growth that comes out in the end.

Also, if you are a Grey’s Anatomy fan, brace yourselves, you get to see Kevin Mckidd in a whole new light! From clean-cut, handsome doctor, to a less than attractive, drug addict…ouch!
